About Faithmead Yarns

Our smallholding is on the border of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire in South West Wales, with views out across the Preseli Hills. This is where we produce 'Wool with Provenance' from our 'Award Winning Fleeces'.

From here we keep our Faithmead Rare Breed and Longwool sheep, who lovingly have their every whim catered for by me, their slave Shepherdess.

All our sheep have names, and all our yarns come from these named sheep.

We keep a handful of several different breeds which are:-
Leicester Longwool, Lincoln Longwool, Bluefaced Leicester, Coloured Bluefaced Leicester, Border Leicester, Wensleydale, Teeswater, Corriedale, Cheviot and Gotland

Each and every fleece is ‘skirted’ and picked over by myself before continuing to its next process, whether to the Mill, or being hand washed here, dried, and then divided into bunches of locks, or bags of beautiful fleece, ready for spinning.

The fleeces that are sent to The Border Mill in Scotland for processing into differing weights of beautiful yarn are very much limited edition, as each batch consists of the wool from between one and four sheep -  From the lustrous longwool locks of the Wensleydale to the soft, bouncy highly crimped Corriedale.

We take a selection of top quality fleeces to the Pembrokeshire County Show each year, where the British Wool Marketing Board hold a "Fleece Competition".  The Champion Fleece at this show then goes back to the Newtown Depot where it will be included in the Prestigious "Golden Fleece Competition". We have done extremely well each year since we started back in 2011, culminating in taking the "Welsh Champion Knitwear/Speciality Fleece" at the end of 2018. In 2019 we once again won the 'Champion Fleece' at Pembrokeshire County Show and although it wasn't selected for the Country this time, it was given "Champion Fleece for Brecon Depot" having once again beaten thousands of other fleeces that pass through the graders hands. We feel enormously honoured to have achieved these wonderful accolades.
